M/V RELIANCE Wow if you've wandered this
far into our wetsite you must really be interested in the history of
Reliance was built in 1986 by Canaveral Custom Boats in Florida. It was driven down and operated until 1989 by Larry French of Underwater St. Croix in the Green Cay Marina. During that time our own Captain Ed dove off the boat while working on his Advanced, Rescue and part of his Divemaster certifications. In 1989, September 17th to be exact, Hurricane Hugo hit, and demolished, St. Croix. Thought Reliance made it through the storm unscathed in her berth in Green Cay Marina, Larry realized that there was a bit more money to be made, "post-Hugo", as a contractor than a dive operator. Reliance sat unused for 6 years. In 1995 Bob Bose, a long time St. Croix dive instructor bought Reliance and began Green Cay Divers, again in the Green Cay Marina. Hurricane Marilyn hit that year and the dive shop that Molly and Ed were working for (V.I. Divers) lost its boat in the storm. Green Cay Divers didn't have a Captain, and V.I. Divers didn't have a boat, so Ed ended up driving Reliance for both shops who, in friendly island tradition, worked together to help each other out in difficult post-storm times. In 1998 St. Croix Ultimate Bluewater Adventures (SCUBA) began. Later that same year we purchase Reliance and we've been operating her since. Reliance is by far the most comfortable dive boat on the island, and now you know her 21 year history. |
